IPIL NDPR WEEK CELEBRATION: Empowering persons with disabilities through education and livelihood support

The Department of Labor and Employment(DOLE) together with LGU-Ipil, Department of Education (DepEd) and Department of Social Welfare and Developmenthave collaborated for the observance of the National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week 2015 in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay. The government proclaimed every third week of July as the observance of the National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation. This year the theme is, "Health and Wellness Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities Toward an Inclusive Development for All."
To have a festive and meaningful observance of NDPR, the organizers included the activities of the NDPR Week as part of the 66thArawngIpil Celebration. The one-week celebration officially kicked-off with a motorcade participated by the LGU, DOLE,DepEd, other national agencies and the Katipunanngmga may KapansanansaIpil(KAMPIL) Association. It was then followed by a launching program hosted by the DepEd - ZamboangaSibugay Division. The DepEd in Sibugay is very vital in the education of persons of disabilities through the Special Education. Talents of students under the Special Education were presented during the program.
On July 21, 2015 a "PWD Stakeholder's Forum and General Assembly Meeting" was held in the Municipal Social Welfare and Development (MSWD) Office wherein the Regional Director of DOLE-IX, Sisinio B. Cano, was invited to be the guest speaker. During the forum, livelihood products made by members of KAMPIL were showcased to the public, their products were also exhibited in the two-weekLumpakTinagbuan Trade Fair and Exhibit. Majority of these products were assisted by the DOLE-Kabuhayan Starter Kit Project.
In his message, Director Sisinio B. Cano committed to continue the support of DOLE to skilled persons with disabilities by providing livelihood support through starter kits. The goal of this project is to mainstream PWDs to the economy and help augment their income. Director Cano also added that the DOLE willaward Starter Kitsto qualified PWD beneficiaries in the NDPR Week Celebration next year as one of the highlight of the celebration.
